About Our Logo

Donella Meadows Institute

DMI’s logo, conceived by the renowned designer Helmut Langer, recalls Dana’s seminal article, “Dancing With Systems.” It conveys hope and joy in our move towards sustainability. The green figure in the center is humanity, dancing within a globe whose colors represent the sky (light blue), sun (yellow), modern technology (grey), earth (brown), water (blue) and traditional technology (red). These elements are connected yet open and compel us to imagine a more vibrant, resilient future.

Mr. Langer has done design work for a number of UN organizations, including UNESCO, UNEP, UNFCC and UNISDR. To learn more about his work on behalf of cultural, environmental and social organizations see www.helmut-langer.eu.

About DMI

Since its founding in 1996 by environmental leader Donella Meadows, our Institute has been at the forefront of sustainability thinking and training. Our initiatives have addressed economic, environmental, and social challenges from a range of angles and at many levels. In everything we do, the disciplines of systems thinking and organizational learning inform and shape our work. It is this focus on whole-system analysis, combined with careful listening, truth telling, and visioning, that make the Donella Meadows Institute unique among sustainability organizations.  Read More
