Sustainable Economies

Our Sustainable Economies Program focuses on accelerating the transition to an economy that serves our communities, supports our values, and preserves our natural assets. We approach this work by providing a common narrative to the diverse community and network driven initiatives that are shaping the economy in Vermont and elsewhere. Our intent, in Donella Meadows’s own words, is to “speak and act, loudly and with assurance, from the new paradigm.” This new paradigm is embodied by socially responsible businesses, citizens’ networks in food and energy systems, local investment, alternative currencies, and more. We tell stories of systems and systemic change, convene systems changers, and develop metrics to measure genuine progress.

Farmers Market

Our Sustainable Economies Program builds on success stories such as farmers markets to help promote similar models of vibrant local economy across other sectors like forest and agritourism.

Our New Economy radio commentaries are another good resource that describe other ways we can approach food and energy, investment, measuring progress, and promoting wellbeing.

About The Donella Meadows Project
